In the latest Times Higher Education rankings, the National University of Singapore was declared the world’s 21st top university. This represents an increase of four places compared to last year.
Nanyang Technological University was ranked 46th globally this year. Earlier in June, NTU had been ranked first by Times Higher Education in a list of universities set up less than 50 years ago.
Currently, universities are assessed on teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
Mr Phil Baty, chief knowledge officer at Times Higher Education, said the world’s elite universities have enjoyed a long period of dominance at the top of the table, but the latest rankings suggest that disruption from Asian countries, including South Korea and Singapore, is occurring.
