At the National University of Singapore, in-person graduation ceremonies were slated to take place from June 17 to the end of July, while NTU planned to hold its ceremonies in July.

However, both universities have shifted their ceremonies online, and the Nanyang Technological University has opted to postpone all in-person events.

NUS students who graduated last year and had their graduation ceremonies postponed to this year will also have to make do with a virtual ceremony.

NTU said that new dates for the ceremonies would be released later this year, and that students who have completed their studies will receive transcripts to help them find jobs.

As technology advances, firms will have to face thorny issues such as privacy, fake news and intellectual property.

Traditional lawyers and programmers may not be able to navigate these complexities due to limits in their training, said Assistant Professor of Computing and Law at the Singapore Management University Lim How Khang.

To equip more graduates to work at the growing intersection between law and technology, Prof Lim helped to set up SMU’s four-year Computing and Law undergraduate course, in which students take modules from both the university’s law and computing faculties.

In February this year, the National University of Singapore’s law faculty announced that it was looking to smoothen the transition for transfer students from other degree courses in the university, with the hope of injecting students with technological or business knowledge into the law cohort.

The Central Provident Fund Board’s student outreach programme engages students and staff across many educational institutions to educate them about Singapore’s national savings and retirement scheme.

CPF programmes for students take a “game on” approach aimed at making the learning fun. Students get to play games with their classmates, and in so doing, gain an understanding of the various rules of CPF and how the different accounts work.

In this way, those who do so are likely to learn more themselves, instead of just listening to the misconceptions that many people have about the national retirement scheme.

Many students say they have become more interested in the CPF system and are keen to search for more information about the scheme.

Nanyang Polytechnic has launched a diploma course in artificial intelligence and data engineering.

The course is developed and taught by industry professionals. Students will receive industry certification from the partner companies on top of their diplomas.

Industry partners in the new course include Microsoft, Nvidia, AI Singapore, Omron Electronics and AI Professionals Association.

NYP lecturers will be given access to teaching materials used at Nvidia’s Deep Learning Institute. Nvidia’s researchers and engineers will train and guide the lecturers before the course commences, and will also share their experiences with students as guest lecturers.
