The Education Ministry has unveiled plans to build more “bridges” and “ladders” to enable students to develop their unique interests and strengths.
In 2022, about 30 more secondary schools will join the current 28 schools to implement full subject-based banding. The remaining secondary schools will follow in 2023 and 2024.
The Institute of Technical Education curriculum will be streamlined to allow more students to attain a Higher Nitec qualification within a shorter time.
The Polytechnic Foundation Programme which prepares selected polytechnic-bound Normal (Academic) students for entry into polytechnic will be reviewed to see how it can be expanded to cater to a more diverse profile of secondary school students.
There will also be a further expansion of the polytechnic Common Entry Programme which gives students more time to discover where their strengths lie before deciding on their specific diploma course.
