Mr Puvanaswaran Manikam had to take on part-time work to help pay the bills when his parents came down with health problems. But this did not prevent him from graduating as one of the top students of the Institute of Technical Education. He majored in Applied Food Science.
The 20-year-old from ITE College East was also very active in two co-curricular activities (CCA) — the student council and cross-country running.
Mr Manikam received the Lee Kuan Yew (LKY) Model Student Award recently at the annual Student Achievers’ Awards Presentation Ceremony.
The award is given to students who display outstanding attitude and academic performance.
When he completes his national service in two years’ time, Mr Manikam intends to study integrated events management at Republic Polytechnic.
