NTUC FairPrice’s Share-A-Textbook project was launched recently. It is an annual event aimed at making used textbooks freely available for needy students.
This year’s project involves many participating stores, including FairPrice supermarkets.
NTUC FairPrice has worked with social service organisations and Community Development Councils to shortlist the names of students from low-income families, who will be given a chance to collect textbooks a day before access is given to the general public.
This year, more than 800 volunteers will be required to help in the project.
Gan Eng Seng School, which has supported the project for six years, has one of the largest contingent of volunteers this year. Gan Eng Seng principal Jenny Tan said that students help in collecting, sorting, packing and distributing the used textbooks.
