University students are taking up work stints and internships in order to enhance their portfolios and secure jobs after graduation.
From the new academic year in August, internships will be made compulsory for all new undergraduates enrolling in Nanyang Technological University. Students need to complete work stints from their second year that will count towards their graduation requirement.
NTU said about 30% of its work stints are converted into full-time job offers.
Internships are also a requirement for some National University of Singapore students, including those from engineering and computing. Other institutions like the Singapore Management University and the Singapore University of Technology and Design have already made internships compulsory for all students.
