Next year, about 40 first-year students at the Institute of Technical Education will have a chance to take part in a mentorship programme in which they will be guided by industry professionals throughout the course of their study.
Under this programme, students will experience more in-depth workplace learning, and also be provided with more opportunities to perform job shadowing and tackle workplace challenges.
The scheme will last anywhere from five to seven years, and it will be made available to ITE students in the information and communication technology (ICT) as well as other science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.
IBM is the facilitator for the programme. The technology stalwart will be providing mentors, opening up its offices to students, and getting corporate partners on board.
Education Minister Ong Ye Kung that the programme will strengthen workplace learning opportunities.
