H2 Further Mathematics Tuition

Specialist tuition for H2 Further Mathematics 9649, also commonly called H2 Further Maths or H2 Further Math. At SG Maths Tuition, I teach it strictly one-to-one in Singapore, so every lesson is built around a single student.

H2 Further Mathematics is offered together with H2 Mathematics as a double mathematics course, and is meant for mathematically-inclined students heading towards mathematics, the sciences, or engineering. It is assessed over two 3-hour papers of 100 marks each. Each paper is worth half the grade. Paper 1 is entirely pure mathematics. Paper 2 combines pure mathematics (50 marks) with probability and statistics (50 marks). Each paper carries an application question of at least 12 marks.

The challenge is twofold. The content turns abstract: matrices and linear spaces, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, second-order differential equations, and a far wider statistics toolkit spanning t-tests, chi-squared tests, and non-parametric tests. And every bit of it runs alongside the full H2 Mathematics syllabus, so pacing and workload discipline matter as much as raw ability.

My lessons keep Further Maths in step with each student's H2 work. I build the abstract topics up from concrete examples and drill the question styles particular to Further Maths.

Since Further Maths is taken alongside H2 Mathematics, many of my students take both subjects with me. See my JC Maths overview for how H1 Math, H2 Math, H2 Further Mathematics, and H3 Mathematics compare, or read about H3 Mathematics if you are considering a third mathematics option.

Why Choose SG Maths Tuition for H2 Further Mathematics Tutoring?

One-to-one lessons, matched to your school's pace

Further Maths cohorts are small and schools sequence the topics differently, so I teach the subject strictly one-to-one. That lets me match your school's order and pace exactly, push ahead when you are ready, and spend extra time on the abstract material such as linear spaces and eigenvectors.

A Tutor Who Knows the Subject Well

I hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics and a B.Sc. First Class Honours in Mathematics from the National University of Singapore, with over 15 years of tutoring experience. Eigenvalues, linear transformations, and second-order differential equations sit squarely within my university training, so students get explanations built on real understanding, not recipes. I track the Further Maths syllabus closely.

Steady Progress, One Foundation at a Time

Over a full course, my Further Maths students often gain two to three grades. They benefit most from my university-level perspective: once the ideas behind diagonalisation or the chi-squared test click, the exam questions stop feeling arbitrary and the marks follow.

Meeting the Demands of H2 Further Mathematics

Further Maths is a genuine double-maths workload: two full A-Level mathematics subjects running in parallel, with Further Maths adding abstraction (linear spaces, eigenvectors, formal statistical inference) that reaches well beyond H2 Math. Each paper also carries an application question of at least 12 marks. Both subjects have to advance together, so I pace lessons deliberately, helping you stay on top of Further Maths without letting your H2 results slip.

My Teaching Methodology

I open each abstract topic with concrete computation: specific matrices before general linear spaces, specific models before formal inference, then formalise. Every technique is then drilled to fluency, because Further Maths papers demand both fast computation and comfort with abstraction, often in the same question.

Comprehensive and Customised Learning Materials

Good practice material for Further Maths is scarce, so I write my own. Students receive summary notes, topical worksheets, and full-length practice papers spanning the entire Further Maths syllabus, from polar curves and numerical methods to non-parametric tests, plus the extended application questions that each paper carries.

Intensive Examination Preparation

I run mock tests and timed quizzes in the format of the actual Further Maths papers, each worth half the grade. Pre-exam revision is coordinated with H2 preparation: I sequence it so overlapping foundations are covered once, while the Further-Maths-only topics get dedicated, timed practice.

Consistent Feedback and Monitoring

Parents receive regular updates, and students get specific feedback on both accuracy and approach: whether a mark went to a slip in computation, to thin justification in an inference question, or to misreading what an abstract question asked. For double-maths students I also flag early when the H2 side needs attention.

Step-by-Step Teaching Methodology

Analyse recent tests and assignments in both Further Maths and H2 Math to pinpoint weak topics and check the two subjects are progressing in balance. Note key dates such as weighted assessments and examinations.

Build a study plan that paces Further Maths alongside the H2 syllabus, placing abstract topics such as matrices and linear spaces after the concrete skills they depend on. Set goals and give realistic guidance on workload.

Revise concepts and key techniques, then practise to fluency, from de Moivre's theorem and numerical methods to chi-squared and non-parametric tests. Reinforce understanding with quizzes and timed practice.

Give consistent feedback to parents and students, advising how to split revision time between Further Maths and H2 Math and which topics to prioritise before tests and exams.

Topics covered for H2 Further Mathematics (Syllabus 9649)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - H2 Further Mathematics Tuition

Who should take H2 Further Mathematics?

Further Mathematics is offered together with H2 Mathematics as a double mathematics course. It suits mathematically-inclined students aiming for university courses in mathematics, physics, engineering, or similar fields.

Expect noticeably more abstraction than H2 Math (linear spaces, eigenvalues, formal statistical inference) and a heavier overall workload, since both subjects run in parallel.

When are lessons held, and how long is each one?

For H2 Further Maths one-to-one lessons, these are the usual timeslots:

Tue-Fri: 7:00 pm.

Sat: 4:00 pm, 6:00 pm, 8:00 pm.

Sun: 4:00 pm, 6:00 pm, 8:00 pm.

Each lesson runs 2 hours. WhatsApp me to confirm a slot.

Are H2 Further Maths lessons one-to-one?

Yes. I teach H2 Further Maths strictly one-to-one.

Reason: cohorts are small, schools sequence the abstract topics differently, and the workload runs alongside the full H2 Mathematics syllabus.

One-to-one lets me match your school's order and pace exactly, give full attention to the harder material such as linear spaces and eigenvalues, and keep Further Maths coordinated with your H2 work.

It also means you can ask questions freely and move as quickly or as carefully as you need.

Do you offer trial lessons?

Yes, I offer trial lessons for new students.

Please WhatsApp me or Contact me to arrange for a trial lesson.

How much are the fees?

H2 Further Maths is taught one-to-one. Please WhatsApp me or Contact me for one-to-one rates, available timeslots, and payment due dates.

Where can I find your payment, refund, holiday, and cancellation policies?

These policies are the same for all levels and are listed in full in the FAQ on my homepage, covering payment methods (PayNow / bank transfer), the refund policy for new students, public holidays and school vacation periods, and class cancellations and make-ups.

Is the syllabus aligned with MOE requirements?

Yes. My teaching follows the latest MOE syllabus for H2 Further Mathematics, and I monitor the questions set in the Cambridge GCE A-Level examinations as well as in promo and prelim papers set by individual JCs.

What materials do students receive?

Summary notes of each topic, topical worksheets, mock quizzes, and full length practice papers, written specifically for the Further Maths syllabus, where good practice material is otherwise hard to find.

Do you provide exam preparation?

Yes, I provide June holiday intensive revision bootcamps, mock tests and timed quizzes, and intensive revision before major exams. For Further Maths students, mock papers follow the two-paper Further Maths format and revision is coordinated with their H2 Mathematics preparation.

A Message from Dr Ng

I have taught mathematics full time as a private tutor since obtaining my Ph.D. in Mathematics from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2011. Before that I read for a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) First Class Honours degree at NUS in 2002. Further Maths is the part of the A-Level I most enjoy teaching. It is where the abstract ideas I spent years on at university finally meet a young student who is ready for them, and guiding that handover one student at a time is why I chose to do this work full time.

Individualised Lessons, Lasting Understanding

For H2 Further Mathematics, I work through each topic in a steady order so the key ideas land and the common exam question styles become familiar. Most students do grow more confident as the abstract topics start to make sense, though I never treat that as a foregone conclusion. Working one-to-one, I can dwell on whatever proves hardest for a given student, set the practice that idea calls for, and keep the pace in step with how the H2 syllabus is unfolding at the same time.

My Academic Credentials

These years with the abstract maths help me see where Further Maths usually trips students up. The real work, though, is sitting beside you and untangling each idea at your pace.
