About Dr Ng

I am Dr Ng, and SG Maths Tuition is my private tutoring practice. I teach secondary level E Maths and A Maths (short for Elementary Mathematics and Additional Mathematics), Junior College H1 Math, H2 Math, H2 Further Mathematics, and H3 Mathematics, and also university level year 1 and year 2 maths subjects.

I hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the National University of Singapore. The qualification I lean on most, though, is the fifteen years I've spent at the whiteboard, learning exactly where a student loses the thread and how to get them back on it.

If you want the detail for a particular level, start here: secondary maths, JC maths, or university maths.

A Message from Dr Ng

If you have read this far, you probably want to know what working with me is actually like, not just what sits on my certificates.

I teach every lesson myself

There is no team here and no relief tutors. When you book, I am the person at the whiteboard, I mark your work myself, and I plan what we do next around what I saw you struggle with that week. Keeping the practice small is deliberate: it lets me hold the details of how each student thinks and adjust from one lesson to the next, which is the part of teaching I have always cared about most.

My Qualifications

Key Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics, National University of Singapore (NUS), 2011
  • B.Sc. with First Class Honours in Mathematics, NUS, 2002
  • GPA of 4.9 / 5.0, with a place on the Dean's List for four semesters
  • Associate Faculty, Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS)

Qualifications are only half the picture. What matters more is helping you understand mathematics better, patiently and without rushing.

Teaching Experience

A good deal of my career has been spent inside the university system, not just preparing students for it. I have conducted tutorials at NUS, lectured as Associate Faculty at SUSS, and helped develop university-level curricula.

That experience shapes how I teach. I know how courses are structured and graded, what examiners reward, and where a syllabus is heading. It lets me prepare a student for the exam in front of them and for the ones that come after it.

I have been a full-time tutor since 2010. I don't teach on the side of another job. Teaching is my full time work. Every week of those fifteen years has gone into getting better at teaching maths, doing maths, and helping others learn maths more effectively and efficiently.

How I Teach

Mastery first. I only teach what I know thoroughly. Complete command of a subject is what lets me make it simple and answer the question behind the question.

One student at a time. Lessons are 1-to-1 or in small groups (secondary 3-4, JC 2-4), so I can teach to a student's actual pace rather than an average one.

Understanding over memorising. I teach why a method works, not just the steps, so the knowledge holds up when a question is phrased in a way a student has never seen.

Honest, specific feedback. Students and parents hear exactly where marks are won and lost, and what to work on before the next assessment.
