H2 Math Tuition

H2 Math, also commonly called H2 Maths, follows the official A-Level H2 Mathematics 9758 syllabus. At SG Maths Tuition, I run one-to-one and small-group lessons for it here in Singapore.

H2 Mathematics is the default maths subject for JC students in the science stream and the prerequisite for most university courses in science, engineering, computing, and economics. It is assessed over two 3-hour papers of 100 marks each: Paper 1 is entirely pure mathematics, while Paper 2 combines pure mathematics (40 marks) with probability and statistics (60 marks).

The step up from O-Level (the SEC G3 from 2027) is steep. Vectors in three dimensions, complex numbers, and differential equations are new in kind, not just in difficulty, and exam questions routinely fold several topics into one problem. Both papers carry real-world application questions, and the graphing calculator is assumed throughout.

I build every topic from first principles, then drill the connected, multi-topic questions that decide the top grades, keeping one eye on how each topic actually shows up in A-Level and prelim papers.

Unsure whether H2 Math (often written H2 Maths) is the right subject? My JC Maths overview shows how H1 Math, H2 Math, H2 Further Mathematics, and H3 Mathematics compare. I also teach H2 Further Mathematics (H2 Further Maths) and H3 Mathematics (H3 Maths).

Why Choose SG Maths Tuition for H2 Math Tutoring?

One-to-one lessons and small group classes (2 to 4 students)

Different JCs teach the H2 topics in different orders. A class of 2 to 4 lets me follow what each student's school is covering that week instead of marching through a fixed programme. One-to-one lessons suit students closing specific gaps (most often vectors, complex numbers, or statistics) at their own pace.

A Tutor Who Knows the Subject Well

I hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics and a B.Sc. First Class Honours in Mathematics from the National University of Singapore, with over 15 years of full-time tutoring experience. Topics like vectors, complex numbers, and differential equations reward a tutor who is comfortable with the mathematics well beyond the syllabus, which makes it easier to explain why each step works. I track the H2 syllabus closely.

Steady Progress, One Foundation at a Time

Many of my JC students gain two to three grades over their period of study. In H2 Math, that starts with locking down every topic on its own. From there, we practise the multi-topic questions that papers use to separate grades. By the time the A-Levels arrive, a problem that opens in calculus and ends in vectors holds few surprises.

Meeting the Demands of H2 Math

H2 questions rarely test one idea at a time. A single question can run from graphs to inequalities to integration, and both papers include real-world application questions. The content is wide on its own: vectors, complex numbers, Maclaurin series, differential equations. On top of that, fluency with the graphing calculator is assumed. Steady, structured practice is what helps it all settle into place.

My Teaching Methodology

For each H2 topic I nail down definitions and standard techniques first, then push on to the harder variants seen in A-Level, promo, and prelim papers. I focus extra attention on the topics students find genuinely new (vectors in three dimensions, complex numbers, differential equations), and I build graphing calculator fluency into everyday practice instead of leaving it as an afterthought.

Comprehensive and Customised Learning Materials

Students receive summary notes, topical worksheets, and full-length practice papers written for the H2 syllabus. Each worksheet ramps from foundational to A-Level standard within a topic and includes the cross-topic and applications questions that school revision packages tend to skimp on.

Intensive Examination Preparation

I run mock tests and timed quizzes in the format of the actual papers: a full pure-mathematics Paper 1 and a split Paper 2. Students rehearse pacing across long structured questions, and my pre-exam intensive revision zeroes in on the topics carrying the most marks: vectors, integration, and the normal distribution.

Consistent Feedback and Monitoring

Parents get regular updates; students get precise feedback after every marked assignment: which topic the lost marks trace back to, whether the error was conceptual or computational, and what to practise next. Across the two years of H2 Math, this steady correction adds up to real grade movement.

Step-by-Step Teaching Methodology

Comb through past papers and assignments to pinpoint weak topics, whether in pure mathematics like vectors and integration, or in statistics. Note the assessment calendar (weighted tests through to the A-Level) and time revision to it.

Build a study plan around the school's topic sequence and the student's gaps, covering both Paper 1 (pure mathematics) and Paper 2 (pure mathematics plus statistics). Set goals and give a realistic picture of the work required.

Revisit concepts and key techniques, then work through progressively harder questions, multi-topic problems and graphing calculator work included. Sharpen problem-solving through quizzes and timed practice.

Give parents and students consistent feedback: which H2 topics still need drilling, and how to prioritise revision ahead of tests, promos, and the A-Levels.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - H2 Math Tuition

What does the H2 Math exam look like?

H2 Mathematics is assessed over two 3-hour papers of 100 marks each. Paper 1 is entirely pure mathematics; Paper 2 has a pure mathematics section (40 marks) and a probability and statistics section (60 marks).

Both papers include real-world application questions, and a graphing calculator is expected throughout.

When are the small group classes held & duration of each class?

For H2 Maths, these are the timeslots for small group classes:

Tue-Fri: 7:00 pm.

Sat: 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 6:00 pm.

Sun: 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 6:00 pm.

The duration of each class is 2 hours.

What is the class size for small group tuition?

I maintain a class size of 2 to 4 students.

H2 Math covers so much ground that students rarely lose marks in the same places, so I keep the group small enough to see where each person is slipping.

That way I can spend longer on the topics one student finds hard without holding back another who has already got them.

It also leaves room for the back-and-forth that the cross-topic questions really demand.

Do you offer trial lessons?

Yes, I offer trial lessons for new students.

Please WhatsApp me or Contact me to arrange for a trial lesson.

How much are the fees for small group classes?

Small-group lessons for H2 Maths: $840 for 8 lessons (billed in advance). For regular students, the fees for the next lesson cycle are due on the 6th lesson of the current lesson cycle (of 8 classes).

For one-to-one tutoring, please WhatsApp me or Contact me for the rates and due dates.

Where can I find your payment, refund, holiday, and cancellation policies?

These policies are the same for all levels and are listed in full in the FAQ on my homepage, covering payment methods (PayNow / bank transfer), the refund policy for new students, public holidays and school vacation periods, and class cancellations and make-ups.

Is the syllabus aligned with MOE requirements?

Yes. My teaching follows the latest MOE syllabus for H2 Mathematics, and I monitor the questions set in the Cambridge GCE A-Level examinations as well as in promo and prelim papers set by individual JCs.

What materials do students receive?

Summary notes of each topic, topical worksheets, mock quizzes, and full length practice papers, written for the H2 syllabus and covering both pure mathematics and probability and statistics, including cross-topic and application questions.

Do you provide exam preparation?

Yes, I provide June holiday intensive revision bootcamps, mock tests and timed quizzes, and intensive revision before major exams. For H2 students this includes full-length timed practice for both Paper 1 and Paper 2.

A Message from Dr Ng

I earned my Ph.D. in Mathematics from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2011, and before that a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) First Class Honours degree from NUS in 2002. Since then I have tutored full time rather than stay in research. H2 Mathematics is where I spend much of that time. It is the subject that decides so many JC students' grades, and I find real satisfaction in helping someone see how its many topics fit together.

Individualised Lessons, Lasting Understanding

H2 Math covers a lot of ground, and the grades often turn on whether a student can hold several topics in mind at once while the clock runs. So I teach each idea carefully first, then return to it inside the cross-topic questions where it tends to reappear. When a concept slips, we sit with it until it is clear, rather than moving on too soon. Over time the breadth stops feeling like a pile of separate topics and starts to read as one connected subject, and that is usually when the time pressure eases.

My Academic Credentials

A degree tells you where I have been, not how I teach. With H2 Math, my real job is to make its breadth feel manageable, one connected idea at a time.
