Junior College (JC) Maths Tuition

At SG Maths Tuition, I teach every JC maths subject here in Singapore: H1 Math, H2 Math, H2 Further Mathematics, and H3 Mathematics. H1 and H2 Math run as small-group classes or one-to-one; H2 Further Mathematics and H3 Mathematics are taught strictly one-to-one.

JC maths is a two-year sprint. The pace is set quickly once lectures pick up pace in March of the J1 year. Each lecture builds straight on the one before. Leave a gap open early and it compounds, because tutorials assume the lectures have already been mastered.

I work with JC students who are:

  • finding the jump from O-Level (the SEC G3 from 2027) or Integrated Programme (IP) maths steeper than they expected,
  • following the lectures but losing marks where it counts in tutorials, tests, and exams,
  • building proof-writing, abstract reasoning, and Graphing Calculator (GC) skills,
  • or chasing the distinction that strengthens a university application.

I run a dedicated track for each subject: H1 Mathematics, H2 Mathematics, H2 Further Mathematics, and H3 Mathematics, and every page lays out the syllabus, the exam format, and exactly who the subject is for.

Why Choose SG Maths Tuition for Junior College Maths?

One-to-one lessons and small group classes (2 to 4 students)

No two JCs teach topics in the same order or to the same depth, and no two students arrive with the same gaps. With at most four students in a class, I sequence each student's lessons around their own school's calendar, drilling promo topics as they approach, then pivoting to prelim and A-Level preparation through J2.

A Tutor Who Knows the Subject Well

I hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics and a B.Sc. (First Class Honours) in Mathematics from the National University of Singapore, and have taught JC maths full time since 2010. I know all four syllabuses in fine detail: H1 Math, H2 Math, H2 Further Mathematics, and H3 Mathematics. That includes the question types that recur at A-Level, as well as in the promo and prelim papers that individual JCs set.

Steady Progress, One Foundation at a Time

Many of my JC students go on to climb two to three grades. The work behind that is the same each time. I fix the foundations first, then drill each topic's question archetypes. We start with standard tutorial questions and build up to the multi-concept problems that separate A-Level distinctions, until clean, well-presented solutions come automatically.

Meeting the Demands of JC Maths

JC maths asks for far more than secondary school did: deeper understanding, longer multi-step problems, and real mathematical maturity, most of all in H2 Math and H2 Further Mathematics. A single question part routinely combines several techniques and assumes Graphing Calculator fluency. I train students to see what each question is actually asking and to set out full, well-presented solutions.

More Than Memorising Formulae

I drill the core formulae and techniques of each topic until they are second nature, then push into the harder, higher-order questions that A-Level and JC prelim papers favour. Fast, accurate computation matters, but so do abstract reasoning, proof-writing, visualisation, and the problem-solving heuristics that crack unfamiliar questions.

Comprehensive and Customised Learning Materials

On top of school notes and revision packs, students get my own materials: concise topic summaries, topical worksheets, and full practice papers that cover every key concept and strategy. They are built to do two jobs at once: close the gap from secondary maths, and prepare students for the demands of university study ahead.

Intensive Examination Preparation

Preparation tracks the JC exam calendar: mock tests and timed quizzes all year, then intensive revision before promos, mid-years, prelims, and the A-Level itself. Full-length timed papers build the speed, GC fluency, and exam temperament those papers demand.

Consistent Feedback and Monitoring

Parents get regular progress updates. Students get specific feedback on exactly which topics and question types are costing them marks. I set revision priorities ahead of each milestone, whether that is the J1 promos or the J2 prelims and the A-Level. That way study time lands where it lifts the grade most.

Step-by-Step Teaching Methodology

Map the weak topics from recent tutorials, tests, and promo or prelim papers. Mark every key date (weighted assessments, promos, mid-years, prelims, the A-Level) and plan backwards from each.

Build a study plan around the student's own JC lecture sequence, patching foundational gaps in parallel. Set honest, term-by-term goals across J1 and J2, and name the work it takes to hit them.

Re-teach concepts where they are shaky, drill the key formulae and GC operations, then escalate to multi-topic, A-Level-style questions. Lock it in with regular quizzes and timed practice.

Report back to parents and students with concrete revision priorities before each milestone (weighted assessments, promos, prelims, and the A-Level itself).

Which JC Maths subject does my child need help with?

H2 Mathematics (Syllabus 9758)

  1. The default JC maths subject, and a prerequisite for most science, engineering, computing, and economics courses at university
  2. Pure maths (functions, sequences and series, vectors, complex numbers, calculus) plus probability and statistics
  3. Assessed over two 3-hour papers; Graphing Calculator skills are essential
  4. Visit my H2 Math tuition page

H1 Mathematics (Syllabus 8865)

  1. For students who need maths for university admission but are not pursuing maths-heavy degrees - common among arts and humanities stream students
  2. Lighter pure maths content (no vectors or complex numbers), with greater weight on statistics
  3. Assessed in a single 3-hour paper: roughly 40% pure maths, 60% probability and statistics
  4. Visit my H1 Math tuition page

H2 Further Mathematics (Syllabus 9649)

  1. Taken together with H2 Mathematics as a "double maths" course - for mathematically-inclined students heading towards mathematics, physics, or engineering
  2. Extends H2 Math with matrices and linear spaces, polar coordinates, differential equations, recurrence relations, numerical methods, and further statistics
  3. Assessed over two 3-hour papers
  4. Visit my H2 Further Maths tuition page

H3 Mathematics (Syllabus 9820)

  1. Taken on top of H2 Mathematics by students with strong ability and interest in maths
  2. Focuses on rigorous proof-writing, number theory, inequalities, and combinatorics
  3. Assessed in a single 3-hour paper whose final question requires reading and responding to a mathematical text
  4. Visit my H3 Maths tuition page

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - JC Maths Tuition

When are the small group classes held & duration of each class?

For JC Maths, these are the timeslots for small group classes:

Tue-Fri: 7:00 pm.

Sat: 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 6:00 pm.

Sun: 2:00 pm, 4:00 pm, 6:00 pm.

The duration of each class is 2 hours.

What is the class size for small group tuition?

I maintain a class size of 2 to 4 students.

Junior college moves fast, and no two schools take the syllabus in quite the same order, so I keep classes small enough to meet each student at whatever stage their school has reached.

A small group lets me give real attention to each person's working instead of teaching to the middle of a crowded room.

It also makes it easy for a student to stop me and ask, which is usually where the understanding actually happens.

Do you offer trial lessons?

Yes, I offer trial lessons for new students.

Please WhatsApp me or Contact me to arrange for a trial lesson.

How much are the fees for small group classes?

Small-group lessons for JC Maths: $840 for 8 lessons (billed in advance). For regular students, the fees for the next lesson cycle are due on the 6th lesson of the current lesson cycle (of 8 classes).

For one-to-one tutoring, please WhatsApp me or Contact me for the rates and due dates.

Where can I find your payment, refund, holiday, and cancellation policies?

These policies are the same for all levels and are listed in full in the FAQ on my homepage, covering payment methods (PayNow / bank transfer), the refund policy for new students, public holidays and school vacation periods, and class cancellations and make-ups.

Is the syllabus aligned with MOE requirements?

Yes, what I teach is fully aligned with the latest Ministry of Education (MOE) syllabus. I constantly monitor syllabus changes and keep myself updated with the types of questions set in the Cambridge GCE A-Level exams as well as in the promo and prelim papers set by individual JCs.

What materials do students receive?

Summary notes of each topic, topical worksheets, mock quizzes, and full length practice papers, all pitched at the A-Level standard, from H1 and H2 Math through H2 Further Mathematics and H3 Mathematics.

Do you provide exam preparation?

Yes, I provide June holiday intensive revision bootcamps, mock tests and timed quizzes, and intensive revision before major exams. These allow students to build foundations, improve accuracy, and increase their exam confidence.

A Message from Dr Ng

After I obtained my Ph.D. in Mathematics from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2011, I chose to teach mathematics full time as a private tutor. Before that, I read for a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) First Class Honours degree at NUS in 2002. JC maths is where the four A-Level subjects come together and where small habits decide grades. Sitting with one student at a time and watching an idea finally click is the reason I do this work, and why I have stayed with it.

Individualised Lessons, Lasting Understanding

For Junior College Maths, I teach each topic through a steady, ordered process. We work through the key ideas first, then familiarise ourselves with the question types that recur in weighted assessments and examinations across all four A-Level subjects. Wherever a student begins, my aim is for their understanding and confidence to grow lesson by lesson. Because I know each syllabus closely, I can spot where a misunderstanding has taken root, then quietly work through the recurring exam archetypes that tend to decide the grade.

My Academic Credentials

Studying maths for years taught me the four A-Level subjects in depth. What it could not teach me is how a particular student gets stuck, so that is the part I keep working on with you.
