University Mathematics Tuition

At SG Maths Tuition, I provide private, one-to-one university maths tuition in Singapore. I teach undergraduates at NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT and SUSS, and polytechnic students working at degree level.

I teach every lesson personally. I hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the National University of Singapore, and over the years I've been fortunate to conduct tutorials at NUS, lecture as Associate Faculty at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), and help develop university-level curricula. Having sat on both sides of the lecture hall, I try to teach the way universities actually examine.

University maths is a different game from JC. Lectures move fast and assume you will fill the gaps yourself. Tutorials and problem sets reward rigour, not just the right final answer. Your grade is decided across continuous assessment, mid-terms and finals rather than one national paper. It is easy to slip a week behind in a 300-seat lecture theatre and never quite catch up.

I work with students who are:

  • feeling the jump from H2 Mathematics or a polytechnic diploma into proof-based, fast-moving modules
  • mathematics and applied-mathematics majors who need real command of analysis, algebra, and the proofs underneath them
  • engineering, computing, data science, business, economics and science students clearing a compulsory maths or statistics module
  • retaking a module, or refusing to scrape through one that stands between them and the degree classification they want

Looking for the details on your module? Each subject has its own page that sets out exactly what I cover and who it is for: Calculus, Linear Algebra, Mathematical Analysis, Abstract Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, and Statistics & Probability.

Why Choose SG Maths Tuition for University Maths?

Small group of students reviewing maths together on a tablet

Taught one-to-one, around your exact module

No two modules, even with the same name across NUS, NTU and SUSS, are taught to the same depth or notation. Lessons are built on your own module outline, lecture notes, problem sets and past papers, so every hour goes straight to what your course is actually assessing.

Taught by someone who has worked inside the university

I have conducted tutorials at NUS, lecture as Associate Faculty at SUSS, and have developed university curricula. That time inside the system genuinely shapes how I teach. I know how undergraduate modules are structured and graded, and what a marker is looking for.

Student working through maths practice beside graphed results

Comfortable across the syllabus, from first year to honours

A Ph.D. in Mathematics means I'm at home right across the undergraduate ladder. That runs from first-year calculus and linear algebra up to honours-level real analysis, abstract algebra and measure-theoretic probability. I can always show you where a result comes from, not just how to apply it.

Proofs and rigour, not just answers

At university the marks live in the argument: stating definitions precisely, quoting the right theorem, and writing a proof that holds together. I work on reading mathematical writing, building epsilon-delta and induction arguments, and setting out solutions the way examiners expect to see them.

Calculator and stationery laid out for exam practice

Matched to how universities assess

Weekly problem sets, quizzes, mid-terms, finals, and the occasional project all pull in different directions. I plan around your assessment calendar, turning around problem sets when they are due, then shifting to focused past-paper revision as mid-terms and finals approach.

Worked solutions and materials for your course

You get fully worked solutions to the problems you are stuck on, concise summaries of the key definitions, theorems and methods, and extra practice pitched at your module's standard. Lessons run in person at my Kovan centre or online over video, whichever fits your timetable.

How University Tuition Works

Start from your module. I go through the module outline, lecture notes, problem sets and any past papers, and pin down every assessment date and its weighting.

Diagnose the real gaps. Most struggles trace back to assumed prerequisites (JC material or an earlier module), so I find what is actually missing and patch it alongside the current work.

Build understanding, then technique. I re-derive the key definitions and theorems until they make sense, then drill the exact problem types your course sets, up to exam standard.

Prepare for every assessment. Timed work on problem sets and past papers before mid-terms and finals, with specific feedback on where marks are leaking and what to fix next.

Which university maths topic do you need help with?

Calculus

  1. Single and multivariable calculus, vector calculus, and the standard first- and second-year engineering and science maths modules
  2. Differential equations, Laplace transforms, Fourier series, and the techniques applied modules lean on
  3. Visit my Calculus tuition page

Your module not listed by these names? Send me the module code and outline. Undergraduate maths is taught under many titles, and I can tell you quickly whether it is one I cover.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - University Maths Tuition

Which universities and levels do you cover?

Undergraduates across Singapore's autonomous universities (NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT and SUSS), as well as polytechnic students working at degree level. The material ranges from first-year calculus, linear algebra and statistics through to honours-level analysis and abstract algebra.

Can you help with my specific module?

Almost certainly. Send me your module code and outline, or your lecture notes and problem sets, and I will tell you exactly what I would cover. The areas I teach most are calculus, linear algebra, mathematical analysis, abstract algebra, discrete mathematics, and statistics and probability.

Is tuition one-to-one, and is it in person or online?

University lessons are one-to-one and built entirely around your course. They run in person at the Kovan centre (988 Upper Serangoon Rd, a 5-minute walk from Kovan MRT) or online over video, whichever suits your timetable.

Do you offer a trial lesson, and how do fees work?

Yes, new students are welcome to arrange a trial. Because every university module is different, one-to-one rates and timeslots are quoted on request. Just WhatsApp me or use the contact form. The payment, refund, holiday and make-up policies are the same across every level and are set out in full in the homepage FAQ.

What materials and support do I get?

Fully worked solutions to the problems you are stuck on, concise summaries of the key definitions, theorems and methods for your module, and extra practice pitched at the standard your course is assessing you to.

A Message from Dr Ng

After completing my Ph.D. in Mathematics at the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2011, following a B.Sc. with First Class Honours in Mathematics there in 2002, I chose to teach. A great deal of that teaching has been at university level: I have conducted tutorials at NUS, I lecture as Associate Faculty at the Singapore University of Social Sciences, and I have helped develop university curricula. I know the material my students are sitting in front of, and I know what their examiners are looking for.

I teach the subject the way universities examine it

Undergraduate mathematics rewards understanding, not memory. So I teach from the definitions and theorems outward (why a result is true, where it breaks, and how to write it up so it earns full marks), and only then drill the problem types your module actually sets.

Whether you are wrestling with epsilon-delta proofs in analysis, diagonalisation in linear algebra, or a compulsory statistics module for another degree, I find the misconception, fix it, and build from there. Regardless of where a student starts, my aim is the same: genuine command of the material, and the confidence to use it under exam conditions.

My Academic Credentials

These say I have spent a long time with the mathematics, from first-year modules up to honours work. What they cannot show is the part I care about: sitting beside you and making the proof finally click.
